Role Description:

Highbury Fields School is a community school in Islington for girls with a small sixth form. It is outstanding (Ofsted, 2016). Many of our students come from families who have to cope with considerable disadvantages. The school is well resourced and we operate with a £5m budget and about 10 mins from a tube (Arsenal) /mainline station (Highbury & Islington). We are a team of 10 governors (including 4 parent governors and 2 co-chairs) but to work best we need 12 governors. This is ideally a two year role - meetings are normally 5.30-7pm on a wednesday evening, approx 3 times a term. We'd love a First Start candidate.

Desired skills & experience:

We need a new co-opted governor who enjoys thinking about strategy. We have 3 committees and most governors sit on two of them (Academics/ Resources// Children, Wellbeing & Community). We are looking for someone who has the ability to horizon scan (and read data, but we can help with. this too) and will always put students' experience (safety and learning) at the heart of the school's policies and vision.  The governing body has a good range of skills - so we'd be happy with any speciality that you have (from finance to communications), or help you grow your experience working in a team. In September 2019 our current head is retiring. A new head has been recruited but this will be a specially interesting time to join our group of governors.
